Bint Morsada
[Ali Saroukh ex Morsada]
Grey filly born 6/16/2007
Miracle Baby Born at Fair Oak Farm:
Pictured is Fair Oak Farm's senior foundation mare, Morsada [*Assadd+++ ex Morgana by *Morafic] at 25 years young with her new 2007 straight Egyptian filly, Bint Morsada, at 10 minutes of age, sired by the beautiful Silver Maple stallion Ali Saroukh, born 6/9/07. Miraculously, not only did Morsada become pregnant with only one servicing, but she carried her foal herself, to full term & had a speedy, textbook delivery at a very civilized mid-morning hour on the grass. She even waited until the coffee was finished brewing to commence final labor! All efforts to attain & retain pregnancy, including embryo transplants, had failed for years, due to a torn cervix, tempermental hormone levels and various other complications. We had completely given up, which was heartbreaking, because Morsada at 24 looked AT LEAST 15 years younger than her actual age. However one spring morning I turned her loose to graze on the lawn--and the only thing Morsada wanted to do was visit with the boys. At that moment I just KNEW she was fertile, so I called up the Dr. Lisa Tesky at Alamo Pintado & sure enough, not only had her cervix tear finally somehow healed itself but everything else looked great & ready to go. I then called Christy Metz who enthusiastically agreed to help give it a try & recommended Ali Saroukh as the ideal candidate. Our prayers were answered with a BEAUTIFUL grey filly....and the neat part is that Morsada gave birth to her own filly in the same month that she ALSO became a great-grandmother....

Cinemai Show
[Showkayce ex Pashmina Estopa]
Grey colt born 6/29/2007
Owner: Jo Franklin, SeaCastle Arabians, Los Angeles, California
Pictured is "Cinemai Show" [Showkayce x Pashmina Estopa], nicknamed "Indy", owned by Jo Franklin of SeaCastle Arabians, with his nanny-mare "2D", owned by 6 year old Ky Skelton. Indy had a rough start in life with a very difficult & traumatic foaling process which ultimately led to being orphaned. Jo dropped everything in Los Angeles to come up & help with formula feeding & overall crisis management, all day every day, and we resigned ourselves to 24/7 baby duty. Tiffany & Carol at DayDream Arabians were incredibly supportive & scoured the valley for an appropriate nanny-goat babysitter. Meanwhile Claire Hanssen shared our dilemma with Alisha Skelton, at Skelton Performance Horses in Cuyama, who came up with a creative solution; her daughter had a sweet 18 year old Quarter Horse mare--who had been a good mother in past years & loved "stealing" other mares' babies--which she would be happy to loan to us. In addition, Alisha had researched a protocol for [1] inducing lactation [with Regumate, Domperidone & Estradial-Benzoate] in mares which had previously had babies and [2] simulating the foaling process through cervical stimulation while holding the foal in front of the "nanny-mare", thus turning on the maternal instinct in the mare. According to the research we looked at online, the actual movement of the baby through the birth canal is a crucial element in turning on the "mommy-chip." Dr. Greg Parks at Alamo Pintado, who was familiar with the research, jumped in right away & got us started. Miraculously, by Day 9 or so, Indy had a new mommy who couldn't have been prouder of him if she had foaled him herself! Moral of the story: [1] NEVER give up & [2] You really CAN find ANYTHING on the internet!
